Cardiff Passport Office: There Isn't One
There is no HM Passport Office in Cardiff. The nearest is Newport, about 12 minutes away by direct train, and you only need it for fast track or premium same-day. Standard online renewals need no visit at all.
Is there a passport office in Cardiff?
No. There is no HM Passport Office in Cardiff, or anywhere else in Wales except Newport. Despite being the Welsh capital, Cardiff has never had an HMPO counter. If you need an in-person appointment, you travel the 12 or so minutes to Newport (Nexus House, Mission Court, NP20 2DW).
But most people never need to. You only need a passport office for fast track (about 1 week, £192) or premium same-day (£239.50, adults only). A standard online renewal costs £102 for adults and is processed with no visit at all: apply at gov.uk, receive by post, usually within about 3 weeks.
Do you need to travel to Newport?
Only if you are travelling within about 3 weeks and need fast track or premium same-day. If you have more than 3 weeks, renew online for £102 (£66.50 for a child) and stay in Cardiff. Online and postal are processed in the same time; online just costs £13.50 less.
